REB Rolls Out Updated Advanced Level Textbooks for the 2026/2027 Academic Year

As the 2026/2027 academic year approaches, the Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) has continued to update its Advanced Level (S4–S6) textbooks, giving Upper Secondary teachers and students revised Students’ Books and Teachers’ Guides across the full range of combination subjects.

Broad Subject Coverage

The Advanced Level materials span a wide academic offering. <cite index=”88-1″>REB’s Senior 4–6 resources cover Languages and Literature (Kinyarwanda, English, French, Kiswahili, Literature in English), Mathematics and Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT, Health Sciences), Social Studies and Humanities (History and Citizenship, Geography, Entrepreneurship, Religion and Ethics), Arts and Creative subjects (Music, Dance and Drama, Fine Arts and Crafts, Home Sciences), as well as Agriculture and Physical Education.</cite> This breadth reflects the combination-based structure of Rwanda’s A-Level system, where students specialize across science, humanities, and vocational-leaning pathways.

Supporting Teaching, Learning, and Exam Readiness

Each subject continues to come with two paired resources. <cite index=”88-1″>Teachers’ Guides and Students’ Books for S4–S6 are designed to support learning, teaching, and exam preparation in Rwanda’s upper secondary education, with teachers encouraged to integrate the guides into lesson plans while students use the books for self-study and revision. </cite>

Built on the Competence-Based Curriculum

Advanced Level syllabi remain firmly grounded in the CBC framework REB introduced to shift classrooms from passive knowledge transfer toward skills-based learning. Cross-cutting subjects like General Studies and Communication Skills continue to be taught through this lens at Senior 4 to Senior 6, reinforcing the same competency-based approach used at lower levels, but with greater depth suited to learners preparing for national examinations and higher education.

Free and Digital Access

Access remains centered on REB’s e-Learning platform. <cite index=”88-1″>All Teachers’ Guides and Students’ Books for Senior 4–6 are available online, where both teachers and learners can download, read, and print the materials as needed.</cite> More broadly, <cite index=”1-1″>REB’s e-Learning platform provides free access to official textbooks and learning materials across every level, including a dedicated Advanced Level category covering combination subjects that prepare students for higher education and national exams.</cite>

For S4–S6 students, Advanced Level is the final stretch before national examinations and university or TVET pathways, making up-to-date, well-aligned materials especially high-stakes. With refreshed Students’ Books and Teachers’ Guides available free online ahead of the 2026/2027 academic year, REB aims to give both teachers and learners the tools they need to close out secondary education with stronger, more consistent preparation.
