Rwanda Coding Academy (RCA) admission requirements and how student placement works

Student placement at Rwanda Coding Academy (RCA) is determined by performance in the O-Level National Examinations, Rwanda’s exam marking the end of the ordinary level of secondary school. Admission to RCA is competitive, and students must satisfy three key requirements to be selected.

  1. RCA must be the student’s first choice

When registering to sit the O-Level National Examinations, a student must have selected Rwanda Coding Academy as their first choice of school. Students who list RCA as a lower-ranked option are not eligible for placement under this criterion.

  1. A minimum of 80% in Mathematics, Physics and English

Candidates must score at least 80% in each of three core subjects: Mathematics, Physics and English. This threshold reflects the technical and coding-focused curriculum at RCA, which requires a strong foundation in mathematics and science, along with English proficiency for technical learning.

  1. The highest overall percentage among RCA applicants

Because places at RCA are limited, final selection is competitive: among all students who chose RCA as their first choice and met the 80% subject requirement, admission goes to those with the highest overall percentage in the O-Level National Examinations.

Why these criteria matter

Together, these three conditions  first-choice selection, minimum subject scores, and overall ranking  ensure that Rwanda Coding Academy admits students who are both genuinely interested in a coding-focused education and academically prepared for its demands. Students and parents planning ahead for RCA admission should prioritize strong performance in Mathematics, Physics and English throughout the O-Level cycle, and list RCA as their first choice when registering for the national examinations.
