The Rwanda Basic Education Board (REB) has issued an official announcement introducing newly revised curricula and instruction materials for secondary schools across the country.
The letter, dated August 10, 2026, is signed by the Director General of REB, Dr. Nelson Mbarushimana. It outlines crucial updates designed to guide school management teams through the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year.
Core Objectives of the Announcement
The primary goal of the directive is to successfully implement updated educational programs. REB targets three main groups to ensure a smooth transition:
- School Administrators: District directors and school heads must distribute these guidelines to all secondary educational institutions.
- Teachers: Educators are instructed to utilize the revised guidelines to align their daily lesson plans with the updated national standards.
- Students: Learners will directly interact with the modernized content to improve overall learning outcomes.
- Scope and Implementation
The directive applies universally to all secondary schools within every district. This includes completely public institutions, government-aided (subsidized) schools, and fully private entities operating in Rwanda.
To guarantee clear communication, the implementation packages and detailed guidelines have been prepared and attached in both Kinyarwanda and English. School leadership is urged to closely review and enforce these directives to support ongoing national education reforms.
