Call for Applications Scholarship Opportunities for Vulnerable  Students in STEM and  TVET Programs.

 

The Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Rwanda, with funding from the Scottish Government through Oxfam under the Inclusive Education Project, is pleased to announce scholarship opportunities for vulnerable Girls and young women who have successfully completed their national secondary school examination and wish to pursue higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs.

The scholarship aims to support the most vulnerable girls and young women, including young single mothers and females with disabilities, who have completed secondary education and face social and economic barriers to accessing and continuing higher education. Particular consideration will be given to girls and young women from disadvantaged backgrounds to enable them to pursue and complete their higher education.

Programs Eligible for the Scholarship;

Applicants may apply for the following programs:

  1. Civil Engineering (Highway Technology)
  2. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Biomedical Equipment Technology)
  3. Mining Engineering (Mining Technology)
  4. Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics Technology)

Applicants must have obtained the required grades for admission to the relevant program and must have completed secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET)-related combination/field qualifying them for the selected program.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Rwandan citizen.
  • Be a female aged 18–25 years, For applicants with disabilities, the age limit is 30 years
  • Having graduated from highschool between 2019 and 2024.
  • Be applying as a first-year student
  • No previous degree
  • Have obtained the required grades for admission to the selected program.
  • Have completed a STEM-related secondary school combination/field

Priority will be given to the most vulnerable girls and young women, including:

  • Girls with disabilities;
  • Girls from vulnerable families and
  • Single mothers aged 18–30 years.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit the following documents:

  1. Notarized copy of the secondary school certificate;
  2. Copy of the National ID;
  3. Two recent passport-size colour photographs;
  4. Medical proof of disability, where applicable; and
  5. Proof of economic vulnerability, signed and issued by a recognized local authority.
